The Parking Lot

We think...

New media offer to the possibility that we can enrich each other as individuals simply with information. The world becomes and is a large brain in which the power lies at the individual and no longer at the organisation with the closed door. A beautiful clip concerning the recent development "We Think" reflects that once more clearly. The clip has been made for promotion of the book of Charles Leadbeater in which the last developments on the Internet are discussed. I think that this is interesting reading matter !

Good and bad online marketingtactics

Goodbad_2
Behavioral targeting, search engine optimization and direct e-mail give more chances to ROI. That is what the latest investigation of MarketingSherpa concluded.

The ROI on payed search results and direct email of third parties is still ok, but a little less then past year.

The most important results :

-57 % of the respondents thought that search engine optimisation was the best online tactic in 2007. In 2006 that was only 45 %.
- E-mailmarketing with own addresses are commented by 47 % as a top tactic in 2007, in 2006 by 42 %.
- Behavioral targeting gives a better ROI than contextual targeting according to 44 % of the persons questioned. That is 10 % more than in 2006.
- Although payed search results remain important, the ROI  devalues because of the higher keywordprices !

And the bad online tactics are .... :

- Rich Media , only 7 %thought it would have a good ROI
- Banners ! ( only 10 %)
- Pop-up / unders. No single marketeer saw a good ROI from the pop-ups !

Social networks : Trends 2008

Social_network_id469214_size440
Social networks are a big part of the internet today. The usage differs from person to person. One person chooses to communicate with its hundreds of friends on facebook, the other one recognizes himself in co-users of an online service like Flickr or Twitter.
Business networks like LinkedIn have a lot of registred users, but have limited possibilities.

Just like weblogs are business as usal, socials networks became an unseperately component of the online world. What are the developments in 2008 ?

  1. Networks will come at you : my village, my neighbourhood, my team,...-networks. This can be new networks, or networks within networks but with advanced functionalities
  2. More privacy in social networks. Less abuse !
  3. Opensource social networking. Log in 1 time, fill your data in 1 time. The wish of many !! Google Open Social is working on that one !
  4. Online Virtual Reality. Second Life & World of Warcraft are taking the lead in this. There is a certain interest at a more general public.
  5. More video and multimedia online and more mobile phones with improved camera functionalities and approachable online applications will give boost to videoblogging.
  6. Free WiFi, Internet in trains, planes and traffic-jams on the internet will raise the internetusage (and therefore also social networks) further.
  7. Mobile Marketing will grow in 2008, and in 2009 mobile marketing will have a definite in marketing/mediaplans
  8. Group = power !
  9. Revenue based social networking. When the mass likes social networks, the money will flow to there ! Also affiliate marketing withing communities will break out.
  10. Social lending ( peer 2 peer banking ).

As you can see, there will be a LOT going on this year when it comes to social networking.
Keep an eye on that !

Chatbots

Chatbots

I found this very interesting link to a website of Erwin van Lun. He's a trendwatcher and futurologist. He assembled all the chatbots that are available in Holland.
You might think, what are chatbots ?
Well, a chatbot is a computer program designed to simulate an intelligent conversation with one or more human users via auditory or textual methods.
You can add them easily on your MSN account ! Remarkable that each of these chatbots have their avatar. They really try to make this chatbot come alive.
I think I'm going to try this chuck-guy !
